An OPP officer was injured in a crash on Highway 401 near Newburgh Road, just before 7 am. The officer had been responding to an earlier collision when they were struck by a passing vehicle in the westbound lanes.
The officer was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Support services are being provided for the officer’s family and colleagues.
To investigate both the original and secondary collisions, the OPP Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigation teams have closed the westbound lanes of the highway. Drivers are urged to follow the marked Emergency Detour Route.
The OPP expresses its thoughts for the injured officer and their family.
