An extreme cold warning has been issued for Greater Napanee and surrounding areas, with wind chill values expected to plummet to between -30 and -35 this morning. The Arctic airmass responsible for the frigid temperatures will persist through the morning before conditions moderate later in the day.
Health officials warn that extreme cold can pose serious risks, including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness, and numbness in extremities. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with strong wind chills.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, ensuring the outermost layer is wind-resistant, and to cover all exposed skin. Authorities also recommend checking in on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors to ensure their safety. Pet owners are reminded to bring animals indoors, as extreme cold affects them as well.
