An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for Greater Napanee and southern Lennox and Addington County as a powerful Arctic airmass moves in.
Environment Canada warns that wind chill values could drop as low as -35°C tonight and Wednesday morning. Conditions are expected to improve by Wednesday afternoon.
Health officials say extreme cold can be dangerous for everyone. Symptoms of cold-related illness include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness, and numbness in fingers and toes.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and check on vulnerable people. Frostbite can happen in minutes.
Pets should not be left outside. If it’s too cold for humans, it’s too cold for animals.
