The Town of Greater Napanee is planning updates to Cemetery By-law 2022-0063, which governs municipally owned cemeteries, including Roblin Cemetery, Riverview Cemetery, Riverside Cemetery, and Sandhill Cemetery. The proposed changes will be discussed at an upcoming council meeting.
The updates aim to clarify rules around the re-sale and transfer of interment rights, adding additional interment right holders, and permissions required for markers, monuments, and foundations. The changes also include updated procedures for arranging casket and urn burials.
The new by-law is subject to approval by the Registrar of the Funeral, Burial, and Cremation Services Act, 2002. Questions about the Act can be directed to the Bereavement Authority of Ontario at 1-844-493-6356.
Residents can review or request a copy of the proposed by-law by contacting Cemetery Administrator Sonia McLuckie at 613-776-1115 or smcluckie@greaternapanee.com. Copies are also available at 99-A Advance Avenue, Napanee.
