We’ve grown quite familiar to the piercing tone that lets us know something’s up.
On November 20 at 12:55 p.m., Ontario will conduct a test of its emergency alert system.
The test will sound alerts on radio stations such as 88.7 myFM, and will also affect television, and compatible wireless devices (phones, tablets, car systems) across the province.
The semi-annual test is done to ensure all platforms are ready for real emergencies.
The primary goal of these tests is public awareness, ensuring everyone knows how to respond when alerts are issued. In Lennox and Addington County, common alerts in recent years have been for severe weather. Recent tests, such as in May, revealed some Ontarians did not receive alerts on their wireless devices, highlighting the importance of these checks.
Emergency alerts are used in various situations, including amber alerts, natural disasters, and terrorist threats. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and be prepared for the test on November 20.
