Ontario’s aerospace industry, a key player in the global supply chain for nearly every passenger aircraft, is strengthening its future with an investment from the Government of Canada.
Minister Filomena Tassi announced the funding during her visit to the First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI) in Deseronto.
The funding will help create a new helicopter training program at FNTI, allowing students to train with advanced technology and earn their helicopter pilot license. The program will focus on meeting the needs of remote Indigenous communities, offering opportunities for meaningful employment and economic growth.
This investment also builds on a number of projects the government has previously partnered on as it works towards a net-zero campus, it will increase the participation of women and First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people in the aviation industry, and to expand its programing.
Minister Tassi noted one of the many advantages the students at FNTI have is their student focused approach to teaching while having tailored programming so that student’s cane have an immediate impact after graduation.
The Government of Canada is committed to working closely with Indigenous communities, fostering innovation, and building a strong, inclusive economy. These investments are designed to support the growth of the aerospace and aviation sector while creating new opportunities for Indigenous youth.
