The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has reported that two inmates at Millhaven Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre have died within as many days.
On August 10, 2024, a 68-year-old inmate died of apparent natural causes. They had been serving an indeterminate sentence since March 18, 2005, for sexual assault, sexual interference with persons under 14, assault with a weapon, and failing to follow a probation order.
On August 11, 2024, a 74-year-old inmate died in custody, but the CSC didn’t share the cause of death. They had been serving a 7-year and 6-month sentence for sexual assault since January 29, 2020.
Due to a court-ordered publication ban, the CSC could not release either inmate’s name.
The inmates’ next of kin have been notified. As with all inmate deaths, the CSC will review the circumstances, and the police and coroner have been notified, as required by CSC policy.
