The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is excited to announce that the Ministry of Education has approved their plan to build a new school for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Amherstview.
The new school will be built on the same grounds as the current one, next to the existing building. This $28.3 million project will have room for 449 students and include three childcare rooms with 49 spaces.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel will remain a K-8 school with both French Immersion and English programs.
“Our Board realized a need for the reconstruction of this school as Amherstview continues to grow,” said David DeSantis, Director of Education. “Our commitment to excellence in Catholic education continues for this expanding and vibrant community.”
Construction is expected to start in late 2024. While the new school is being built, students will stay in the current building.
This project is part of the province’s investment program to create better learning spaces for students.
