During their meeting this week, Greater Napanee Town Council heard from Dave Milligan and Dr. Tom Touzel from the Ad Hoc Trails Committee, who presented their plan for a trail network to reduce car dependency in the community. They aim to connect recreational facilities, schools, shopping areas, and workplaces with trails, promoting health, clean air, and attracting more residents.
They have started mapping out routes (see below), with some needing minimal work and others requiring major projects like footbridges. The trails will be safe and accessible for all ages, with well-packed paths, lighting, and benches.
Touzel mentioned that they’re ready to move from planning to implementing their ideas and are seeking endorsement, a committee to proceed, and support for the project from the council.
Council noted and received the presentation, with several members expressing their full support for the group’s efforts so far.
