Partners in Mission Food Bank has announced their moving to a larger facility to better serve the Kingston and Loyalist communities.
They made the announcement Monday, to mark their 40th anniversary. The first food collection was received on June 17, 1984. The food was counted and sorted at St. Joseph Regional House in Amherstview, then sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for their emergency food distribution program.
Executive Director Dan Irwin shared they’re really appreciative of all of the support over the last 40 years, enabling them to be able to help neighbours in need.
So far this year, they’ve helped over 6,300 people.
The new location, just 400-meters down the street from their current location, will feature a shopping model that allows clients to choose their food.
But their new home needs a little work done before they can move in. They’re looking to raise about $1 million for the renovations.
