UPDATE: The Ontario Fire Marshal is still investigating the fire that happened Friday afternoon at 113 West Mary Street in Picton.
Lennox and Addington County staff stayed at the apartment building until late in the evening to make sure tenants got back to their units safely.
The County Council and staff extend their sincere condolences to the family of the person who died in the fire. The identity of the deceased and the cause of the fire have not yet been released.

Original Article: Staff from Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington Social Services (PELASS) were onsite Friday at 113 West Mary Street in Picton to help tenants affected by the fire. This building is owned and operated by the Lennox and Addington County Housing Corporation.
Based on initial reports, the fire damaged one unit, and a few other units have light smoke damage. Sadly, one tenant has died due to the fire.
The building was evacuated so the Fire Marshal can investigate. Displaced tenants are at the Picton Salvation Army, where they are receiving food and drinks.
