There’s a new emergency detour route in Tyendinaga Township.
The Ministry of Transportation, Township of Tyendinaga, and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte worked together to create this new route. They considered things like how long it takes to travel and if the route can handle more traffic.
This change was necessary because accidents on the highway were leading confused drivers into Tyendinaga Township’s local roads, which aren’t meant for heavy traffic.
New signs marked with “EDR” and arrows indicating direction are now up along the new detour route.
Detour for westbound traffic from Highway 401 at Marysville/Highway 49:
- Westbound Highway 401 traffic will detour onto Marysville Road/Highway 49 and head west towards Old Highway 2.
- Traffic resumes its westbound travel on Old Highway 2.
- Turn north and travel along Shannonville Road to Highway 401 to resume the original highway route.
Detour for eastbound traffic from Highway 401/Shannonville Road:
- Eastbound Highway 401 traffic will be directed to turn south on Shannonville Road.
- Travel to Old Highway 2 and turn east.
- Turn north at Marysville Road/Highway 49 and continue.
- Resume eastbound travel at the Highway 401 interchange.
