The Town of Greater Napanee voted earlier this year to remove a piece of land from their surplus list and retain it as a green space. Now, someone has an idea for the land.
During their meeting this week, council heard from the Lennox and Addington Stewardship Council, proposing a little forest for a piece of land near J.J. O’Neill Catholic School.
Stewardship council member Amanda Gray began by commending council for retaining ownership of this land as a green space.
With partial funding on the line from the Naturally L&A Activation fund, they’re hoping for a quick response from council.
The timeline of this project would see site preparation and soil amendments in the Spring/Summer of 2024, then order native trees and shrubs in the Summer/Fall, and finally plant in either the fall or spring of 2025.
Councillor Dave Pinnell Jr. feels they should slow down before making a decision.
Council voted to give support in principle under the understanding a report will come back in two weeks. Councillor Pinnell abstained his vote.
