Low-income residents of Prince Edward County can now request financial assistance for their property taxes or water/wastewater bills through the Municipal Financial Relief Grant. Applications are open until July 15, 2024.
Eligible tenants paying for water and wastewater services can apply for a credit of up to $350 on their water bill, while eligible homeowners can apply for a credit of up to $750 on their property tax account. Applicants will be informed of the outcome in September, with credits applied to September bills. Household income thresholds for eligibility are $32,240 for single individuals and $64,480 for families.
Assistance with applications is available at in-person sessions on May 22 from 10 am – 1 pm at the Wellington and District Community Centre and June 5 from 1 pm – 4 pm at the Picton Town Hall.
The County Foundation administers the program. More information and help with applications can be found on their website. The municipality also provides additional resources for residents struggling with household expenses, listed on thecounty.ca/help-with-payments.
