The Greater Napanee Downtown Advisory Committee (DAC) was dissolved this week during a special meeting of council.
Councillor Angela Hicks, who is the council representative on the committee, began the discussion and got right to the point by saying this entire mandate needs a look at.
Hicks says the committee was down to 5 members. Meaning if one person doesn’t show, they don’t have quorum.
The Councillor is in favour of a new entity, which she says needs representation from every sector. This would allow for the creation of sub-committees providing very specific things, like fundraising, marketing and communications, and events planning.
Mayor Terry Richardson commented saying the good that came out of the DAC is that it likely has recognized that we may need a new committee for the whole of Greater Napanee.
Richardson went on to say they’re not abandoning the downtown core, “I like to look at it as we’re supplementing our downtown.”
Councillor Dave Pinnell Jr. has proposed the idea for a tourism committee that would create events to give Naturally L&A and the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board more content to share about Greater Napanee.
Town Council voted to dissolve the DAC as it is currently. Later they voted to direct staff to report back regarding a potential committee structure and mandate to promote tourism, marketing, events and economic development and to also report back regarding the funding allocation for the DAC.
