Earth Day is a week away and Prince Edward County is brimming with events.
The county’s Supervisor of Environmental Services and Sustainability Albert Paschkowiak says students have been busy during the lead up to Earth Day.
April 20th there’s a composter giveaway for PEC residents only and a county wide large item swap April 20th and 21st.
Also on the 20th, Paschkowiak says there’s the Owen Jones Memorial clean-up.

Paschkowiak says April 24th features the Miyawaki Forest Presentation with Joyce Hostyn from Little Forests Kingston from 7 to 9 pm at Prince Edward Community Centre Picton Main Street.
Recently Prince Edward County updated its bylaws to allow for naturalized yards in the county. If you’re interested in the workshop or tours, registration is on the County website at TheCounty.ca.
Earth Week talks feature Construction of the Murray Canal Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 pm at the Ameliasburgh Church Building. Hear from Dan Buchanan about his fourth book “A History of the Murray Canal.” Buchanan will provide insight into how the project began and the digging of the canal.
The Quinte Conservation Program Showcase is on Saturday, April 27 from 10 am – 11 am at St. Philip’s Church, 45 Philip Street in Milford. Sustainable PEC and Quinte Conservation’s Outreach and Stewardship Coordinator, will helm a discussion on the programs that Quinte Conservation offers within the local watershed.
Paschkowiak says Earth Day events culminate May 4th with the tree seedling giveaway.
Paschkowiak says the purpose of this program is to address the loss of Ash trees in Prince Edward County and across Ontario.
May 4 also features an Environmental Expo.
You can also test drive an electric vehicle with Plug ‘N Drive and participate in panels and workshops to learn more about changes you can make at home to help with sustainability.
There’s also the “Garden in a Box Give Away” hosted by The County Garden Club at London Avenue Park in Picton from 1 to 3 pm. Premade garden kits will be provided and collected in the picnic area. Registration can be done through the Prince Edward Learning Centre at PrinceEdwardLearningCentre.com.
