No decisions have been made yet when it comes to the Town of Greater Napanee’s Short Term Accommodation policy.
Many councillors are for having a policy, citing fire safety risks and nuisance parties that disrupt neighbours.
Councillor Dave Pinnell is for having a policy so these accommodations can be inspected.
Councillor Michael Shenk noted the difficulties enforcing the regulations.
Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson mentioned that drafting a by-law would mean acknowledging they wouldn’t recoup the costs of enforcement through fees and fines.
Council voted to direct staff to continue to investigate and consult with the community regarding a potential licensing by-law and come back with revenue and expense forecasting. There’s no word yet as to when this will come back before council.
