The operators of Pickerel Park RV Resort & Campground, now Sun Retreats Hay Bay, were penalized in Napanee court for disregarding government regulations. They were required to construct a sewage system according to a Ministry approval, but failed to do so.
Castle Amalco Real Estate Holdings U-L-C, the company managing Pickerel Park, was found guilty of violating the Environmental Protection Act. They received a $6,000 fine, plus a victim fine surcharge of $1,500, and given one year to pay.
During the period from July 21, 2017, to August 29, 2019, approvals were issued to Pickerel Park for upgrades to two on-site sewage works.
Although they hired a company to handle the sewage system upgrades, Castle Amalco did not adhere to the approved plans. They neglected to install washroom facilities at a lodge and failed to replace an old tank at a transfer station.
Following an investigation, the government charged Castle Amalco, resulting in their conviction.
