Belleville Police and other emergency services were kept busy last evening following reports of a significant number of overdoses in the downtown core shutting down some roads.
In total, emergency crews responded to 14 overdose incidents in the short time span and thankfully, no deaths have been reported.
All emergency crews cleared the area and all roads fully opened again just before 9pm.
The Belleville Police Service would like to remind anyone who uses drugs of the advice from the HPE Public Health Unit. If you use drugs, do not use them alone, refrain from mixing drugs, try a small amount first to reduce the risk of drug poisoning and always have at least one naloxone kit nearby.
Anyone who is using drugs alone can also call the National Overdose Response Service at 1-888-688-6677 and someone will stay on the line with them.
The OPP are also joining this conversation, reminding you that if you or someone you know may be experiencing an overdose, don’t hesitate to call 911. The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act can protect you. Learn more at opp.ca/overdose.
