In Napanee District Minor hockey action on Saturday, the U15 Napanee Stars got by Otonabee 4-3 at the SPC. Early on, Cal Wilson tallied using a quick release. Liam Mulder made it 2-1 on a solid pass from Wilson in the second frame, but their opponents scored as well. Late in the period, Keagan York’s shot appeared to trickle through the goalie. Not finished yet, the Wolves tied things up with fewer than five minutes remaining, but Oliver Kimmett, short handed, converted a Wilson pass for the winner. Shots were 29-22 for Napanee.
Earlier, the U15’s were strong 4-2 winners facing Frontenac. Wilson had a natural hat trick. In the first, he banged in a puck that was sliding toward the crease. In the second, he broke in alone, and a minute later got the winner. Kimmett scored on the power play with a solid point shot. An errant pass late led to a breakaway goal, but goalie, Bauer Desveaux, was able to preserve the victory.
The Goodyear U13 Napanee Stars had a tight game with Gananoque, settling for a 3-3 tie. Maddux Hartwick, right off the opening faceoff, broke in with a harmless looking shot which found its way through the five-hole. The Isles replied before the five minute mark, adding another on the power play in the second. With six and a half minutes left in the game, the Stars’ opponents took a two goal lead. Walker Presley kept it close, however, jamming one in during a goal-mouth scramble. With 100 seconds left, Hartwick scored the equalizer on a setup by Caleb Baker. Shots favoured the Stars 30-18. Presently, the U13’s are in second in the five-team playoff round.
The D&D Electocraft U18 Napanee Stars lost 4-1 Friday in Douro facing the league leaders. Dylan Kemp scored their lone goal. Saturday, at home to the bottom feeding Campbellford squad, the U18’s cruised to an 8-2 victory. Their offence was clicking as Tie Wood, Luc Asselstine, and Caleb South each had a pair with singles by Kohen Carter and Tivon James.
The U11D Napanee Stars lost 3-1 in Tweed on Saturday. Their hosts tallied in the first, added a power play goal in the second before Clark McNeill scored in the third on a set-up by Colton Celestini.
