The Lennox and Addington OPP have charged a driver for violating the “Move Over” law.
On Monday around 11:00 a.m., L&A OPP officers were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 when a vehicle sped past at an estimated 130 km/hr in the adjacent lane without moving over or slowing down.
The driver, a 30-year-old male from Kingston, was charged with failing to move – a $490 fine and three demerit points.
In Ontario, the “Move Over” law requires drivers to slow down and proceed with caution when passing an emergency vehicle parked on the side of a highway with its lights on.
This law aims to protect the lives of emergency responders and tow truck operators working on the roadside.
Lennox & Addington County OPP Provincial Constable SOULE wants to remind everyone, ” As a driver, your actions can directly increase safety. Please be aware of emergency vehicles and remember the Move Over Law”.
