The month of January is known as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month across Canada.
The goal of the month is to bring awareness to those living with dementia or another form of memory loss.
myFM spoke with Lorraine Ross, education and support coordinator for the Alzheimer Society of KFL&A, who told us they really want to heighten the awareness.
Alzheimer Society of KFL&A is looking to raise awareness in the Napanee area this month.
This free program will feature 6 guest speakers, a light lunch and more. You’re asked to register in advance by emailing Ross at lross@alzking.com or by calling 613-544-3078.
The Alzheimer Society also offers a support group for caregivers every Thursday in the Napanee office, giving caregivers a chance to build bonds with other caregivers like themselves.
What’s new? They will be offering a virtual support group for caregivers of parents. This is a specific support group for adult children caring for parents. It will be virtual which is beneficial to those who don’t live in the same community as your parents but would like to know what’s going on and talk to other adult children who are caring for parents as well. That start on Tuesday, February 6 from 5:30 to 7pm via zoom. To register you can email Ross at lross@alzking.com.
The second offering is called memory café, and it will be every Monday 10am to 12pm starting February 5. Tt’s a social program for people living with dementia and their caregivers offering social interaction, games and just some fun and laughter.
