The Lennox and Addington OPP stopped four drivers on Christmas Eve.
Around 12:30 a.m. on December 24, 2023, L&A OPP began their holiday RIDE program on Centre Street in Napanee. The first vehicle stopped belonged to a 29-year-old man from Kingston who tested positive on the screening device for alcohol. Consequently, he received a three-day license suspension.
An hour later, during the same RIDE program, another vehicle was stopped, and the lone male driver failed the alcohol screening test. He was arrested and taken to the police station for further testing. 31-year-old Mathew Grant of Greater Napanee, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as well as having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
Later, at around 11:18 a.m., officers responded to a call about an intoxicated woman attempting to enter a residence. They found her in a parked vehicle and, after testing, she also failed the alcohol screening. The woman, identified as Kayla King, 36, from Amherstview, faced charges similar to those laid in the RIDE program earlier.
At approximately 1:14 p.m., the police were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound by County Road 6. One of the drivers involved, Lucas Adam, 29, from Kingston, was arrested for impaired driving and was taken to the police station for further tests. The people in the other vehicle were not injured. Adam faced charges of impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and assault.
All accused were released on an undertaking with a future court date. They all had their licence suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for seven days.
