There will be less ‘no signal’ areas now across the region after a recent announcement from the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, the Governments of Canada and Ontario, and Rogers Communications.
Rogers 5G mobile services is now available in more areas after they added 18 new sites and upgraded 7 existing ones.
This extends 5G access to residents in Lennox and Addington, Frontenac, Hastings Counties, and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte for the first time.
This initiative is part of the EORN Cell Gap Project, a $300 million partnership to enhance rural eastern Ontario’s cellular services. Half the funding comes from federal, provincial, and municipal contributions, while Rogers, chosen through competition, provides the rest.
Rogers is constructing about 330 new telecommunication sites and upgrading 312 existing ones. Upgrades for 305 sites and 58 new cell sites have already been completed. They aim to accelerate tower construction in 2024, bringing in numerous new towers throughout the year.
This expansion aims to improve public safety and provide peace of mind to residents, enabling emergency service access and navigation apps in rural and remote areas of eastern Ontario.
