Winter weather is here making our drives a little scary at times. It’s important that we get ready now before the weather gets any worse, and we possibly find ourselves stuck on the side of the road in the snow.
To get prepared, myFM spoke with Constable David Yome, L&A OPP Media Relations Officer, who shared some important tips with us.
But what should you keep in your emergency preparedness kit? Yome let us know.
Having a full tank of gas is also important, looking back on last year’s storms that left people stranded on the side of the roads for hours before police could arrive. The phone charger also came in handy in this scenario, so that you can stay connected with emergency responders without worrying about your phone’s battery.
Before you hit the road always make sure your vehicle is completely cleared of snow and ice. You’ll also want to look ahead at the forecast. If the weather looks like it’s going to be bad, reschedule your driving plans to make sure you get to your destination safely.
The L&A County OPP are also out doing their annual Festive Ride programs. Yome shared that there have been several done already, with two impaired drivers charged and one charged for driving while suspended from a previous impaired driving charge.
