Before moving away and becoming a big star, Avril Lavigne started off like many, taking part in community theatre.
Director Tim Picotte settled in Napanee in the 90’s with his wife and became involved with the Lennox Community Theatre in Selby. This is where he first met Avril.
The first musical he directed was “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”.
They went on to cast the show and make a part for Avril as Sally, Charlie Browns little sister.
The next year’s production was “Godspell”, where Avril was directed by Picotte to play the character more gothic or as a punk.
Picotte says she sang with her heart pouring everything into it, even into her performance. “She gave it her all.”
This weekend Avril will be added to the Canada Walk of Fame.
