Against the wishes of many in the community, Greater Napanee town Council has voted to support a natural gas expansion proposal from Atura Power.
It was clarified during their meeting this week that this would not be a third plant, just an addition to one in place.
General Manager of Growth and Expansion Michael Nobes explained,
Councillor Dave Pinnell made a statement during the meeting, sharing the percentage each type of energy supplies to Ontario’s power. Nuclear being the highest at 54% of Ontario’s power. Gas is at 10%.
He believes with the Lennox Generating Starion coming offline as a support station, that we’re going to need more power.
The vote was not unanimous, with the only ‘No’ coming from Councillor Angela Hicks.
