A Napanee couple is marking the 35th anniversary of their song written to celebrate our troops fighting for our freedom.
myFM spoke with Marie and Dave Perry, who wrote this song alongside their friend Bryan Feland.
The idea for the song came from Brian, who had played in a few Support The Troops tours in the middle east.
It was then Thanksgiving weekend 1988 that they sat down to wrote it.
When it came to writing the lyrics, the Perry’s both had a good background on what these people were feeling as Dave’s father was a WW2 veteran and Marie’s dad was in the Royal Air Force.
When writing the lyrics, the vision in Marie’s head was that of a soldier lying on a cot at night trying to go to sleep with war noises going off all around.
The song would go on to be picked up as the Yellow Ribbon’s campaign’s anthem and would be performed at numerous Support The Troop rallies.
