Over the last few years in Greater Napanee, you may have noticed some colourful art displays featuring geometric shapes popping up in the community. They are known as barn quilts!
myFM spoke with Napanee’s Pat Dubyk, who is a founding member of the Prince Edward County Barn Quilt Trail and wanted to create one in the Greater Napanee Area.
First looking back on its history, barn quilts originated over 200 years ago when the Pennsylvania Dutch displayed barn stars and other symbols on their barns.
They’re made on weatherproof board that’s been primed a few times with a few layers of a very good quality outdoor paint.
This project was the proud recipient of the Naturally L&A Activation Fund last year.
There are currently 25 barn quilts around the Greater Napanee Community, including in Conservation Park, Springside Park, at Santorini’s, and Kaiser Lake Farms.
