As you get ready to go see family or friends for the long weekend, keep in mind your health and that of others.
myFM spoke with KFL&A’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Piotr Oglaza, who shared that their messaging is focusing on very similar core messaging to infection prevention.
When visiting family this long weekend, here’s hoping your little niece who’s got a cold from school doesn’t sneeze on you.
But if you’re starting to feel sick after the long weekend, Dr. Oglaza told us that the sooner you get tested, the sooner you can be treated.
If you’re worried about going to visit grandparents or any older relatives who are at risk from getting sick in a long term care setting, it’s important to check in before you go.
myFM spoke with Angela Malcolm, Lennox and Addington County Director of Long Term Care, who told us things can change on a daily basis at the John M. Parrot Centre in Greater Napanee. They frequently provide updates on closures due to illness within the centre through their newsletters.
Dr. Oglaza says it’s also important to see where we are in the respiratory season. Right now, we’re early in the season, but this long weekend may see further spread as we gather with loved ones.
You’re encouraged to get up to date on vaccines, including for COVID-19 and the flu. Flu shots are expected to arrive in the KFL&A region later this month.
