What an exciting night of hockey at the Strathcona Paper Centre!
Friday, September 22nd, the Napanee Raiders hosted to Picton Pirates for their first matchup of the season. Picton opened scoring just over one minute into the first period. A minute 15 seconds later, Napanee was on the board with a goal by Ben White. Blake Aylesworth and Marshal McFarland both scored in the remainder of the first for a 3-1 Raiders lead. It was a scoreless second period for the Raiders, with the Pirates scoring twice to tie the game at 3. McFarland scored his second of the night during the third period to give the Raiders a 4-3 lead. Picton answered that with two more to take a 5-4 lead. With less than 2 minutes left in the period, it was a goal by Michael Patrick to tie the game at 5, sending the teams to overtime. Neither team were able to find the back of the net during overtime play, ending in a 5-5 tie.
The Napanee Raiders remain atop the East Tod Division standings with a 2-0-1 record and 5 points.
The Raiders return to action Friday, September 29th, when they will host the Amherstview Jets at the SPC. Puck drop at 7:30pm. Then on Saturday, September 30th, the Raiders will be hitting the road to Port Hope for their first game against the Panthers. Puck drop is 7:30pm.
