Prince Edward County OPP is urging caution to prevent fraud.
They recently assisted a victim who lost $17,000 to scammers.
The fraud began with a fake call from someone claiming to be from a bank’s fraud department, instructing the victim to deposit money into a cryptocurrency ATM and buy gift cards.
Thankfully, an alert employee at Rexall in Picton intervened and directed the victim to the OPP.
To protect yourself, remember these tips: Don’t hesitate to say no, do your research, and if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The OPP also appreciates vigilant employees who help prevent gift card fraud.
