Premier Doug Ford’s Office has requested an investigation into his housing minister’s Cheif of Staff after Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk published a strong report about the decision to allow the construction of houses on lands that were protected as part of the Greenbelt.
In her investigation, she found evidence suggesting that the government showed favoritism towards developers who had connections to the housing ministry’s chief.
The opposition parties are demanding that Clark, the housing minister and MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, step down from his position as a result of the findings.
NDP Leader Marit Stiles, even suggested that there might be some corrupt activities involved.
In response, Clark reiterated that he still has the support of Premier Ford, and hinted that neither he nor his main assistant will be resigning from their positions.
The request for the investigation is now under review.
Premier Doug Ford is standing by his decision about the greenbelt development. He is pointing out that Canada has made commitments to welcome immigrants, which means there’s a greater need for housing.
