As local farmers’ markets get into full swing, you may be wondering what’s being grown around you that can make its way onto your plate.
Monday, June 5th marks the start of local food week, and Mercedes Unwin, Program and Resource Manager at non-profit educational group AgScape says that shopping local when it comes to food does more than support the local economy.
Locally you can visit the Amherstview farmers’ market that run’s every Saturday from 9am – 2pm or the Frontenac farmers’ market in Harrowsmith on Fridays from 3pm – 7pm. There are also markets in Kingston and Belleville.
Unwin also says that there are lots of ways that you can eat local that you might not be considering.
