Ahead of the long weekend, police here in Ontario are warning outdoors-lovers to take extra precautions before leaving for an excursion, after a missing canoeist was found on the edge of a river.
The paddler was found alive this week on the Sturgeon River, which is north of Sudbury, but his extraction was difficult – the aviation unit had to get involved.
Police are warning anyone who goes on an adventure, and there will be plenty in Lennox and Addington County, to be prepared.
A good rule of thumb is to let someone know the exact location of their destination before they leave. Also, bring a survival kit in case of an emergency. And remember, cellphone coverage will be spotty at best.
