Physician burnout continues to be a topic of discussion since the COVID-19 pandemic exposed a lot of existing gaps in the healthcare system and created new ones.
The healthcare sector alongside all levels of government are trying to stop the bleeding.
President of the Ontario Medical Association Dr. Rose Zacharias says a big cause of physician’s feeling burnt out is the paperwork.
Zacharias agrees that a quick fix to the physician burnout plaguing the healthcare sector is to cut some red tape keeping internationally trained doctors from practicing. She says the OMA is on top of the issue.
She says the number one cause of physician burnout is the administrative work now required from them, and feels there needs to be a better way to streamline or delegate that work to help ease the load on them.
