The Ontario Provincial Police are hoping to see more women consider a career in policing with them and are on a recruiting kick hoping to accomplish exactly that.
OPP East Region Recruiter Cst. Merisol Primeau says there’s a simple reason why that is: they feel the numbers are too low.
Primeau says they’ve seen only a 1% increase in women in uniform join the OPP over the past decade.
She says they look for well-rounded individuals as future constables.
The OPP are hosting a variety of events across the province today and later this month to learn more.
They plan on hiring 400 police officers this year, and have invited women from across Canada to attend an event. They include:
March 8, 2023 (Orillia, ON) – Practice PREP and yoga session
March 8, 2023 (Welland, ON) – Information session
March 8, 2023 (Ottawa, ON) – Information session
March 12, 2023 (Brampton, ON) – OPPortunities for everyone session
March 16, 2023 (Virtual) – Information session
March 27, 2023 (North Bay) Information session
Registration is required. Please visit opp.ca/events to learn more.
