Tsi Tyónnheht Onkwawén:na (TTO) Language and Cultural Centre has purchased its first school bus and hired a driver and bus monitor. The bus will be used by children in TTO’s Early Years and Primary Immersion school.
Callie Hill, TTO Executive Director shared that through these programs, children as young as age three and up to 10 are receiving instruction and care in their language, in their culture, and in an environment that cherishes and celebrates Onkwehonwenéha.
This bus purchase was one of TTO’s many current projects, including building their very own building to house their Mohawk Language and Cultural Centre.
Josh Hill, Councillor on Tyendinaga Mohawk Council, says they are pleased by this announcement.
Funding for the bus, as well as salaries for the bus driver and monitor, came from supporters including the parents and families of its children’s programs, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, Canada Helps, Tyendinaga Giveaways, Bev Hill, Mohawk Duty Free, and Richard Sager.
