No ice is safe ice.
That is the message from the OPP, who recently rescued a group who went ice fishing in the Bay of Quinte who became stranded on a chunk of ice.
They were all successfully brought safely back to shore.
The OPP note that while the ice may look tempting for ice fishing, skating, walking or other activities, please do not trust the ice.
Temperatures have been erratic this winter, causing the ice to be not thick enough in some areas.
They ask if you do venture out onto the ice, to use of safety equipment. This includes: wearing of survival suits, carrying picks (used to grip ice to pull yourself out of the water) and carrying a rescue rope.
