Santa Claus is coming to town! And he’s helping the foodbank along the way. The Greater Napanee Parade of Lights is taking place December 3rd beginning at 5:30pm. Along the route non-perishable food items will be collected for the foodbank.
myFM spoke with Abby Mills, Director of Community Ministries at the Napanee Salvation Army, who says demand has grown at the foodbank throughout the pandemic. So far this year 65,000 pounds of food has been handed out in the community. Every week there are new families registering for service Mills says.
Mills says pop-top cans are really helpful for anyone who may be homeless and wouldn’t have access to can openers. Anything that is ready-to-eat is also greatly appreciated.
Having access to a foodbank is very essential to families who are food insecure.
Mills told us all of the support from the community is redirected back into the community to those who need it most.
The Salvation Army foodbank is also in need of volunteers.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact their volunteer coordinator Paul at 613-888-4426.
