It was an exciting weekend for the Napanee Raiders, who won both games played having scored a total of 16 goals across the two games.
Friday night the Napanee Raiders hosted the Frankford Huskies at the Strathcona Paper Centre. The game started hot and fast as the Frankford Huskies scored two goals within the first minute and 45 seconds. Napanee evened the score before the period ended with two goals by Cameron Krupa and Noah Westwater. Napanee took a 3-2 lead heading into the second period with a goal by Ben Carter. Frankford then took the lead back, getting two more goals. A goal by Napanee’s John Hearns tied the game at 4-4 to end the second period. To solidify their second win of the season, Napanee came back to score four goals in the third period from Christos Chronis, Will Potts, Marshal McFarland, and Blake Aylesworth. Napanee won 8-4, making their record on the season 2-0-0.
Sunday night the Raiders took a trip to Amherstview to play the Jets for their first road game of the season. Napanee started the game with four goals in the first period. Two of those were scored by Marshal McFarland, with Ben White scoring the second pair of goals in the period for the Raiders. Amherstview then answered that with three goals making it a 4-3 hockey game to end the first period. The Jets opened the scoring in the second period, which was answered a few minutes later by a goal from Napanee’s Maverick Labrie making it a 5-3 game. The raiders then got their sixth goal of the game from Cameron Krupa. The Jets then got two goals to end the period at 6-5 for the Raiders. Third period saw two goals for the Raiders from Ryan Kidd and Cameron Krupa. The Jets got one last goal to finish the period. Napanee won 8-6 over the Jets, improving their record to 3-0-0.
The Raiders are currently tied for the top spot in the East Tod Division with the Amherstview Jets, who are 3-2-0 to start the season.
Napanee now has a few days rest before a busy weekend ahead. Thursday night the Raiders will be traveling to Picton to play the Pirates. Friday night the Raiders will be home at the SPC to host the Port Hope Panthers. Both games puck drop will be at 7:30pm. Saturday Napanee will be playing in Frankford to play the Huskies. Puck drop in Frankford is scheduled for 6:50pm.
