The annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers Run to Remember is officially underway. Officers began the run Thursday morning departing Toronto around 8am.
Provincial Constable Brianna Raison, Lennox and Addington Community Safety officer told myFM, “The National Peace Officers’ Memorial ‘Run to Remember’ raises awareness for the annual Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service, which is held on the last Sunday of September in Ottawa. The 3-day, 460km “Run to Remember” precedes it and makes its way through many communities.”
Riders passed through Greater Napanee between 11am and 11:30am Friday. They will be continuing on to Kingston, before ending their day in Brockville.
“The run is so important to peace officers,” says Raison, “as it is a reminder that we will not and have not forgotten about those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It is a time to reflect on the bravery of the officers whose names are etched on the Memorial Wall in Ottawa. It not only pays respects to the officers, but to their families as well that have endured pain and loss.”
The ride is expected to conclude at 3pm Saturday September 24th at the Canadian Police and Peace Officers Memorial in the City of Ottawa.
