There’s going to be a lot more visitors this weekend in Lennox and Addington County, as geocachers from across North America and around the world will be arriving for the Discover L&A MEGA Geocaching Event.
After a two-year absence due to the pandemic, this year’s event is once again classified as a MEGA geocaching, which means it will draw quite a large crowd. This is Lennox & Addington’s 8th consecutive MEGA Event and is Canada’s only MEGA event held in the same location each year.
We spoke with Rob Plumley, L&A County Community Development Officer, who briefly described geocaching to us.
The fun begins today, Thursday August 18th, with the ‘Discover L&A Stargazing Tour’ which takes visitors to the L&A County Dark Sky Viewing Area, weather permitting, for a laser-guided tour of the night sky and telescope viewing.
Then on Friday August 19th, from 10am – 2pm, the very popular ‘Water Cache Canoe Cruise’ returns to the Napanee River. The launch location is at Centre Street beside the Waterfront River Pub & Terrace. Later that evening, the official kick-off party for the MEGA event is at the Museum of Lennox & Addington at 6:30pm.
Plumley says the main event begins Saturday morning at 8am.

The County of Lennox and Addington is very excited to welcome these visitors from around the world to explore and enjoy Lennox and Addington County.
If you’re not a geocacher but would like to learn more, you’re encouraged to attend the event at the museum on Lennox and Addington County where you can meet with volunteers who are more than willing to help.
