Lisa LaFlamme is out as CTV National News lead anchor after in her own words she was “blindsided” by a recent CTV decision to replace her. The announcement came on Monday from the network saying Omar Sachedina would be Chief News Anchor and Senior Editor of CTV National News starting September 5th. Since 2011, LaFlamme had been the Chief News Anchor, she was named Best National News Anchor five times by the Canadian Screen Awards, and named Officer of the Order of Canada in 2019. The 58-year-old LaFlamme, took to Twitter Monday saying she was informed in late June of the decision.
On Twitter she went on to say “I was also asked to keep this confidential from my colleagues and the public until the specifics of my exit could be resolved.” In a Bell Media press release, it said it was “recognizing changing viewer habits” as it moved “the role of its Chief News Anchor in a different direction.” LaFlamme has been on the air for 35 years starting her journey in Kitchener in 1989, and in her video said that her departure was not her choice but thanked the viewers, her family and her colleagues.
