This fall there will be much excitement at the Strathcona Paper Centre as the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS) hosts the annual Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo.
AORS members provided a deputation to council during this weeks meeting to tell them a bit about the organization. Joe Reid, who works for the City of Belleville, told council a bit about the members involved with AORS.
Greater Napanee is part of Chapter 8 of AORS, which is one of the larger chapters. It spans from Quinte West all the way to Elizabethtown-Kitley, and up to North Frontenac.
Reid told council a bit about how many drivers will be taking part.
As part of this competition they are to identify truck safety hazards and defects, they must do a pre-trip inspection, and then finally they will take part in a field obstacle course. As a part of the Roadeo, they will be handing out the John Gloor Memorial Trophy, to the best equipment operator from across the province.
Napanee will be hosting their Roadeo on September 27th, before the provincial Roadeo taking place at the SPC parking lot September 28th. As part of this Roadeo, there will also be a trade show.
For the provincial competition, Napanee and Stone Mills Township are each donating two trucks to be used.
