A local hockey player recently took part in the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association’s provincial tournament, and skated away with gold!
myFM spoke with Megan Simpson of Napanee, who told us about her team, the Senior “A” Kingston Ice Wolves.
Simpson played soccer with one of the team organizers and during the soccer season she had reached out and mentioned she was going to be putting together a senior “A” team.
Simpson told us a bit about how the tournament went this past weekend. She said for their game Friday they were down a few girls, because now that they’re all grown up, they have jobs! They can’t take the time off any more like they used to, getting to take the day off school to go play.
The team varies in ages, and when heading into the gold medal game, many of the girls were physically tired. Simpson shared that heading into Sunday, some were sharing sentiments that they hadn’t played that much hockey in a long time.
The Kingston Ice Wolves beat the Scarborough Sharks 5-3 to win gold.
Simpson then shared some words of encouragement with us for the next generation of female hockey players.
