A Montreal driver is facing multiple charges after nearly hitting a police officer.
On January 20, 2021 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Officers of the Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the OPP were assisting the Ministry of Transportation on Highway 401 with a road closure. Highway 401 westbound was closed form Marysville exit to Shannonville Road exit for the purpose of a heavy tow removal of a Transport truck.
A vehicle approaching the closure was driving in an erratic manner and nearly struck an MTO worker. A cruiser was parked at the off ramp with its lights activated and the erratic driver passed this cruiser on the right from the off ramp lane. The driver accelerated towards an officer who had to take evasive action to avoid being struck. A second officer was able to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle as the driver continued on in the closed portion of the highway. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for processing.
L&A County OPP have charged a 42-year-old of Montreal, Quebec with:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code (CC);
