Thanks to the community, the 88.7 myFM/L&A Mutual Insurance All Hands On Deck Food Drive was bigger and better this year.
Yesterday, August 23, 2021, a cheque ceremony took place with the Morningstar Mission’s Kevin Alkenbrack and Abigail Mills from the Salvation Army Food Bank. The cheques were presented by L&A Mutual Insurance Company, President Mike Salmon and Accountant Barb Delaney. Also on hand were Rebecca Wilkinson, General Manager at 88.7 myFM, and from L&A Mutual Insurance Business Development Coordinator Kristy Smith.
myFM spoke with Smith about why the food drive is so important to L&A Mutual Insurance.
Alkenbrack with the Morningstar Mission, says food drives like this mean more variety for area families, individuals and seniors.
Mills from the Salvation Army Food Bank says so far this year their service level is 100% above what it was in 2020. She says the need is huge and this helps so much to fill the gap.
This year, the food drive raised a total of $6750.00, with L&A Mutual Insurance matching that amount, for a grand total of $13,500; plus $400.00 in gift cards. Alkenbrack estimates there was 25% more food donated this year.
