It’s Women of Influence Day presented by Bennett’s Furniture and Mattresses. We are profiling senior associate deputy minister of employment and social development Lori MacDonald
39 years ago Lori was reading a newspaper when she read an ad where they were hiring the first female correctional officers to work in a men’s maximum security institution in Ontario. Lori said she threw her name in for an interview and was part of a group of women who began working at Kingston Penitentiary.
After spending much of her career with Correctional Service Of Canada, she moved to public safety. She says she’s always had a desire to serve her country and that she’s deliberately worked in positions where she can impact people’s lives.
When asked for advice for the next generation she said to never give up, to persevere, to be tenacious, to stand up for themselves, and to have a support network around them.
