The Ontario and federal governments have partnered in a program aimed at strengthening the health of managed honey bees.
Beekeepers like Marianne Gee who operates Gees Bees in eastern Ontario will be able to apply for funding to support honey bee health and business capacity
Gee, who is also the President of the Eastern Ontario Beekeepers Association, says the program comes at a time when awareness of the importance of the bee population is growing.
The money can be used to buy specialized equipment to prevent the introduction and spread of disease in bee colonies. The cash can also be applied to the purchase of domestically raised queen bees.
